BRITTA McCARTHY   /   INTERIOR DESIGNER

member NKBA . USGBC . Allied ASID

Born in Brooklyn NY with lifelong connections to Denmark, the meaning and beauty of Scandinavian design is personal to Britta. From farm to factory to living room and kitchen, the organization of space and uses of resources are each considered precious. The creation of "hygge" flows into to every aspect of her work and life. "Hygge," a Danish word that has no perfect translation in English, can be described as a sense of coziness, warmth, and pleasure that emanates from space, form and light...Yet it is not about objects, but more about creation of sanctuary and community, wherein one can feel connected, alive and at peace.

COMMUNITY

Britta Design is a supporter of the Silent Spring Institute, an organization founded in 1994 and dedicated to science that serves the public interest. SSI partners with physicians, public health and community advocates and other scientists to identify and break the links between environmental chemicals and women’s health, especially breast cancer. Their groundbreaking studies have opened new doors to the health risks associated with toxics where we live and work – areas that have been ignored in cancer research.
